U3A Public Talk: Jez Smith – Beyond Ears: multi-sensory hearing

Tue, Mar 17

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Methodist Church Hall, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 9DU

Jez Smith is a sound therapist and historical musician, with over 40 years experience playing music and moving into sound therapy over the last 10 years. As a hearing impaired musician he has explored and developed a variety of multi-sensory listening skills, bringing the whole body and the senses into the process. This discovery of listening beyond just audible sound has been a hugely liberating experience and he uses these range of skills in his soundbath sessions.

In this talk he will explain how he has overcome the challenges he has faced around listening and offer suggestions of how others can explore the benefits of listening in this different way. He will use a range of sound therapy instruments to explain the process of listening through out the talk.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and his venues have included Kew Gardens, Wisley Gardens, St Pauls Cathedral and he has been running regular monthly sound sessions at Cowdray Hall for the last 5 years. He also previously worked at Cowdray Ruins as the Education Officer

Monthly talk and refreshments: doors open 2:00 pm; refreshments served until 2.20pm; talk starts at 2.30pm
