J E Allnutt & Son Ltd is a traditional watchmakers clockmakers and jewellers with a twist. Once common in most towns watchmakers and clockmakers are now a rarity, both are now on the Heritage Crafts Red List as critically endangered.

Our twist is we have five British Horological Institute (BHI) and Swiss trained watchmakers including two that we trained as apprentices to make sure that the trade can continue. In addition to that we have three West Dean College and BHI clockmakers all working on site.

The shops stocks a varied range of vintage wristwatches and antique pocket watches with makes such as Rolex, Omega ,Longines, Jaeger LeCoultre and rare collectable pieces always in stock.

Also stocked is an exquisite array of unique antique and contemporary jewellery by leading designers.

The shop with its own repair department can undertake repairs to all types of jewellery, wristwatches, pocket watches and antique clocks. We also undertake all traditional jewellery services including hand engraving of signet rings, pearl re stringing and silver and gold plating.

In a world that is transient with an ever-changing high street, the shop that we work from has been doing the same thing since the 1840’s.

Geoff Allnutt has been running the shop since the early 2000s having taken over from his father, John Allnutt, who purchased the business from the Bannister family in 1981. Original shop fittings and etched glass windows from circa 1900 sit alongside modern counters in an echo of the eclectic mix of stock.
