Hollycombe Steam in the Country is the most varied collection of steam engines and fairground rides in Britain, including a fully working Edwardian-era steam fairground; narrow gauge and miniature steam railways; steam road engines; road rollers; farm and other engines.
The museum is maintained and run by volunteers, keeping alive the skills, sights and sounds of 100 years ago. Ride the world’s oldest white-knuckle ride, the ‘Razzle Dazzle’ or ‘Mr Field’s Steam Circus’, the world’s first mechanically operated fairground attraction. Enter the spooky confines of the world’s oldest Haunted House (restored as new for 2017), or see ‘The Fair from the Air’ on our Chair-O-Planes. Take in the view of the South Downs from Hollycombe’s famous Big Wheel, or enjoy the views of the South Downs and Sussex Weald from the comfort of the Quarry Railway.
There are beautiful woodland gardens to explore too, with walks to features such as the Romantic View or the Ice House. Youngsters are not forgotten with juvenile rides including the Austin Cars and everyone’s favourite, The Hall of Mirrors. With picnic sites, a great-value cafeteria and a Gift Shop with a wide range of steam memorabilia, Hollycombe is just the place for a ‘3-generation’ visit!
